Some words from our on-the-scene reporter...

Bold change at the Roxbury Mile--two heats to avoid finish line crowding.

Heat #1, the slow(er) crowd. General consensus that it is easier to run fast when you have someone to chase.
But also general glee that we didn't get lost. Eunice aptly served as our rabbit and GPS. Madelyn kicked
across the finish line--literally. Scott is thinking he needs to start harnessing that energy. In the meantime,
someone get this guy a cape for his superhero efforts with the stroller. Team Mariani produced a strong
showing. Nate and Mary thought pre-race coffee and doughnuts were a good idea. They weren't. Leanne
took down 20 miles on Friday but still rocked the mile. Chris Norris returned to Roxbury, no runners were
harmed by roundhouse kicks.

Heat #2 brought it, though their extra warm up time probably helped. Winner Andrew would have had to sit
outside in the rain alone all day if he didn't win. (Just telling you what I heard.) Kudos to all Heat #2 runners
who performed as advertised at 6 minutes or less.
And Heat #1.65 was dominated by Lynn who dashed up South Street without anyone else even in sight.
"I figured a solid head start was the only way I could beat the guys in Heat #2!" Good thinking, Lynn.
There were rumblings of difficulty breathing. Could our systems be in shock from the cool start, despite that
there was no summer heat? Let's experiment next week with the 7.3 mile Jeep Trail/Hemlock combo.
