Squire Road

This week was the first fabulous fall weekend for running, clear and dry, and we celebrated by running the 5-mile Squire course in reverse. Fun? Hardly, but we did it anyway. Our winners were Jeff Sheldon in 31:43 and Theresa Krebs in 34:29. There was a lot of great running! In particular, Theresa took off with ferocity of speed that floored everyone behind her. Which was, in fact, everyone. Dirk powered up South like a locomotive--running out of control downhill. For the first time in a while, it was a But-ler free race. But in his absence we welcomed back Jean, who has been greatly missed. We were graced by Dansquared, both Lynch and Lamb. We learned that Dr. Ross is a brawler, but only with the Swiss, with whom he evidently has a number of problems. We also learned that he has a secret weapon--the lovely Janet, who can weep on command. If you start hearing sniffles and wailing behind you, it may well be her ready to leave footprints up your back. Michelle spent part of the week at the Newport Yacht Show and has been singing "I'm On A Boat" ever since. Harry celebrated his strong finish with a loud fashion statement, hiking his inseam because he "moves like a cheetah." Also in fashion news (it was fashion week, after all) Sheldon has thrown down the gauntlet, declaring he will dress both with armwarmers but sans shirt for the upcoming Botsford Hill course. Hear that, Vanderheiden? Sounds like a challenge. Next week, we meet at the River Road recreation area for the 3ish mile Race for Open Space. There will be a $5 entry fee. In two weeks, meet back at the park for the annual Ed Sandifer Handicap race which will be immediately followed by awards and a breakfast honoring Ed. Look forward to seeing you there!
