Roxbury Mile II

Saturday dawned a beautiful morning for running and perfect for the ever-popular Roxbury Mile #2. Aside from a little confusion at the starting line (where do I go? Two heats? Which one? Do I start now? Yes? No?) the mile proved as challenging as ever. After a slow uphill start, the race eases downhill to the halfway-ish mark before slowly but surely grinding uphill to the finish at the school. Congratulations to all the finishers, especially our winners, Jeff Sheldon (5:10) and Theresa Krebs (6:08).

Being a natural distance for families of all ages, we were pleased to see multiple Roxbury Running dynasties represented. Team Krebs was fastest overall and sported the best-looking shoes. Team Ong seemed happiest to be running. Team McNulty brought the largest and only inter-species team. We predict Team Thoennessen will be the most-chased team in 10-ish years. Team Vanderheiden represented three generations and extreme preparedness with both headlamp and sunglasses. Great to see all members of Team Feather running. Welcome to Team Saevitzon. And we were pleased by the dynamic duos representing the Marianis, Nashes, and Danays. Not running were the LoSaccos, who evidently succumbed to the siren song of the Newtown 5k. (Really, LoSaccos? Really?)

Thanks, Bob, for setting up the racecourse and to all the finish line volunteers. Next Saturday is our Two for the Show 5k charity race benefiting juvenile diabetes and autism programs in Danbury. Cost is $5. Look forward to seeing you there!
