May 28, 2011 Roxbury Mile 1 -- notes by Larry Deming
Warm and hazy.
Desmond O'Grady won in 5:05 by a margin of 31 seconds ahead of second place Nelson Azevodo. Baerbel LoSacco won in the female division with a time of 6:10 and placed sixth overall. She sported a fetching two-piece outfit and navel dangle.
Runner-up female Kateri was one of five speedy runners, including young Blake and Dan who cracked seven minutes in the so-called "Slower Heat”. Filling out the quintet were Jon Ong, who beat the bracket by 31 seconds, and our fearless Race Director, Bob Lewis.
Dirk seemed to float like a … ummm, like something light. He says he hasn’t run much at all since his marathon because his knees are sore.
Festive families were out in force today, as this writer counted four Ambruso’s, four McNulty’s and five Ong’s putting feet to the pavement and workin’ it! Who could fail to be moved by little Kerstin pushing it in to the finish line? Good job, kiddo, and congratulations to all our runners today!
