Race Report by Mary Schafer

Jeep Trail & Hemlock

Even without gale force winds or driving rains, Hurricane Earl broke the chokehold of heat that defined our summer, producing the best day for running in recent memory on Saturday. That happiness was quickly shattered as the collected runners realized we would be tackling the fearsome duo of Jeep Trail + Hemlock. It isn't that either course is particularly difficult on its own (relative to the rest of Roxbury) but somehow the combined down, up, down, up hills over 7.3 miles becomes overtly arduous. In a surprise to no one, Jeff Sheldon won the day in 45:43 and without his shirt. Theresa Krebs led the women's side in 54:05 and with not one but two shirts.

John wins the Good Neighbor award for looking out for fellow runners (namely this one) when cars start acting creepy Cue the Enrique Iglesias. Michelle and Emily continue to show off their outrageous improvements, proof that Battle Swamp repeats really will make you fast. Janet and Keith battled it out in an honest to God photo finish--Janet gets the extra point for having the sense to grab the popsicle stick first. She's crafty. Kudos to Harry for always having appropriate attire for the occasion at hand.

A huge shout out and thanks to Mike "Coach" Abraham for penning the race reports during this writers vacation. Perhaps if we are lucky and ask nicely he will continue to provide us with tips on improving our Roxbury performances? Next week is the 2 For the Show charity race. Bring $5 for the 5k next Saturday. See you there!
