Race Report by Mary Schafer

Happy holiday weekend! Is there a way to better spend it than running? No! For the intrepid among us, there was the 2.4 mile Chalybes Ascent on Saturday, the Steven Wright Memorial 5k on Sunday, and the Firecracker 8k on Monday. Anyone run all three?

At Roxbury, overheard just past the mile 1 marker, "Where does this hill go?" "It goes up." Doesn't it always? Jeff Sheldon completed the course first in 13:20 while Mary Schafer finished first for the women in 17:14. Good to see Matt making his first Roxbury appearance of the year and with more trips to his in-laws we predict not the last. Also happy to see the Larosa and Bussom families running with the youngsters. A pleasure to see Ed Sandifer in the results--a clear signal that more is right with the world than wrong.

Happy birthday to Stefan's k9, Inspector Honeydew, who shares our nation's birthdate. And speaking of getting another year older, congratulations to Charlie who was the Steven Wright 5k's oldest male finisher. Look out Harry, we're all coming for you! Some faster than others. A shout-out to the women of Roxbury who dominated the 5k; Theresa in 1st, Mary 2nd, and Jeanne 4th. 3rd place, we are coming for you next year. Be afraid. Finally, Bob was awarded the prestigious "Friend of the Race" Award. We agree that Bob wins this award, whether awarded or not, for most races. Thanks, Bob! Scanning the local papers, it appears that Brian, Alejandro ("Don't call my name!" bonus points to name that tune), Bruce, Baerbel, Eric x 2, and Keith all managed to stay on course and finish the Firecracker 8k. One can only assume that their keen pathfinding skills, honed in Roxbury, have served them well in the wider world.
