Race Report by Mary Schafer

After a brief reprieve, summer returned this week for our 4.2 mile run up/down Ranney and up Hemlock. Winners were Desmond "Happy Ever After" O'Grady with a time of 24:14 and Mary Schafer in 30:21. Chris was mightily disappointed when he found the self-serve water stop was not a soft-serve stop. "I demand ice cream at our next Eagle Scout race," he declared at the finish. Anyone second the motion?

Stefan the Steady looked into his crystal ball pre-race and determined that he would run 7:07 min/mi for the race, and lo and behold his 29:53. Congratulations to Michelle who is putting up impressively improving times in her first year at Roxbury. Larry notes that he was not wearing vintage this week but that he did find his hat on the side of the road. Why he advertises this I am not sure. A report from Mrs. Rossiter (ie Noah's mom) suggests that she MAY bring homemade cookies again the future. If everyone could be on their best behavior until then that would be great.

Congratulations to everyone who competed in the various alternate races this weekend, we hope you had fun! Steve finished first in his age group at the Waramaug Tri while Team Jean finished 3rd in the team division. Cindy and Nora completed their Half Ironman on Saturday. Both are looking forward to less training in the future. And LeeAnne successfully ran the trails of Mt. Greylock. Nice work, everyone!

A reminder that next week we are running the "Race for Open Space" organized by our own Mo. We will NOT meet at Hurlbert park, rather at the Roxbury Pond on River Road. The race is 3 miles and we look forward to seeing you there!
